Visitor Accounts

When we add you as a Visitor in our library’s system, we reuse the barcode and account number issued by your Home Library. The card from your Home Library also serves as your card at Hamersly Library. This is a convenience for you and us, but there are no digital connections between the systems.

Notify us any time you have a change of name, address, email, or phone number, or if you have a new Home Library or barcode. We’ll ask you to confirm this info whenever you renew your account.

The Tier 2: Community Patron with Borrowing Privileges is the baseline Visitor account in our system. Whenever your status as a Summit Visiting Patron or Independent Scholar expires, your library account reverts to this baseline account. The account expires in one year and you may renew it if it is clear of unreturned items and outstanding charges. The account may also be suspended or revoked prior to the expiration date for cause.

To renew your Independent Scholar status, we need to charge the Continuing Access Fee (detail code A077) to your financial account. Contact Ellie Baker in the library (503-838-8884, nalivaikoe@wou.edu) to request this charge & renewed status.

Hamersly Library sends all notifications (borrowing and return receipts, due date reminders, etc.) through email, with additional text messaging available.

Returns and Overdue Materials

Return material directly to Hamersly Library, not to your Home Library. Book drops are located outside both entrances and one inside the building.

We do not charge overdue fines. However, we do impose replacement charges quickly after due dates pass, and we suspend your account from further borrowing until material is returned or charges are paid. The default replacement charge is $75. You may pay online or in-person at the Cashier’s Window, first floor of the Lieuallen Administration building. If you pay a replacement charge and are then able to return our item within six (6) months of the due date, we may be able to refund you. However, if the library has already ordered a replacement, the refund is not available.
