My ancestors are among the early settlers of Monmouth, Issac Smith, Margaret Butler Smith, Rufus Marion Smith and Irene Melissa Wren Smith. Ida Margaret Smith Goodnight, daughter of Rufus and Melissa, and her husband, Sylvester Goodnight graduated from Monmouth Normal School on June 11th, 1888. They were married the dame day. She received a Bachelor of Scientific Didatics degree. I have her diploma. It is signed by Iran Butler.
