Hello. I'm trying to find an answer to a question I have...does anyone know who may have been the first Black student to graduate from WOU? I'm going to guess it was when it was called Oregon State Normal School. I ask because I'm having a disagreement with someone who says that Carrie Halsell Ward was the first Black person to graduate from an Oregon public college or university. I think that there was probably an earlier graduate at Western, simply because of its proximity to Salem, which had a larger Black population in the early 1900s, and also because it was a teachers college. Please let me know if you have any idea.

I'm not in a rush. But, if this information was known, I'd like to know.
