Students read the textbook and complete selected exercises from each chapter (on their own papers). The textbook contains answer keys which students use to check their answers and self-correct before coming to class. The chapter exercises make up 4 homework assignments (out of 10), which are 20% of the final grade.

This book is also used as a reference for two text-analysis assignments, which are 20% of the final grade. The text-analysis assignments require students to identify and analyze English grammar such as sentence patterns and verb types in produced by Grade 3 and Grade 5 students.
