This course uses the history of film production design as a lens through which theater students develop a rigorous, historically grounded visual language. Moving from the expressionist stagecraft of early silent cinema through the total design systems of Classical Hollywood, international art cinema, the blockbuster era, and contemporary world-building, students build the analytical and practical vocabulary to make intentional, argument driven design decisions in their own theatrical work.
