Good morning,
I work with the Oregon State Capitol Foundation, and we received a request from a relative of Gov. Straub. The relative is in possession of Gov. Straub's desk that he used as treasurer and governor and then as his daily desk after public office. When he was elected as treasurer, he wanted to model fiscal responsibility and searched the Capitol for used furniture instead of buying new. The desk was in storage in the Capitol basement, and he asked for it to be moved to his office. After his term of governor ended, his staff petitioned the state, and was able to purchase the desk and gift it to Gov. Straub.
I know that the Hamersly Library is in posession of Gov. Straub's archives. The relative of Gov. Straub is looking for a place to gift the desk to. Would you be interested in storing and/or displaying the desk?
Please let me know your thoughts at oscf@oregoncapitolfoundation.org or (503) 363-1859.
Thanks,
Olivia Holloway
