The Harlem Renaissance:
As Gay As It Was Black
Celebrating the LGBTQ2SIA+ community and Black History Month, The Harlem Renaissance: As Gay As It Was Black exhibition from Stonewall National Museum Archives and Library (SNMAL), “explores homosexuality in Harlem during the artistic movement that defined black culture in the 1920’s and 1930’s.” Each panel highlights individuals and events as you walk through the history of Harlem as a place and culture at a unique moment in time.
On display from February 6th – March 31, 2024, in Hamersly Library at Western Oregon University.
This exhibition is funded through the LGBTQ2SIA+ Student Success Grant awarded to Western Oregon University in partnership with Central School District through the Oregon Department of Education.
