Sometimes full articles are available directly from the library databases, and you will see this icon:

But in many instances, there is no link to the full text of the article, and you only have the summary (or even just the citation information).  This is when you use the ‘Find it @ WOU’ button. It looks like this:

Just click it and you will be taken to a page with information about how to access the full text of your article.

The Library has movies!

Find lots of great movies in the library – from Oscar winners to blockbusters, and everything in between. Most are available in both DVD and Blu-ray. Newer films (within the last three years) are on the 1st floor in the Recreation Collection, and older films are on the 2nd floor. You can also browse movies in the library catalog.

New Fall Exhibits @ the Library

Hamersly Library cordially invites you to the fall 2013 exhibit reception, Wednesday, October 9th from 4:00p.m. – 6:00p.m.
The exhibits run Monday, September 23rd through December 13th, 2013 featuring:

ShadowsSHADOWS~ Anna Daedalus and Kerry DavisShadows is suite of life-size photograms that evoke the shadows of victims vaporized by the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. To create the images, artists Anna Daedalus & Kerry Davis designed and built a custom photo booth where participants were invited to lend their shadows in commemoration. This body of work was developed with a 2013 Project Grant from the Regional Arts & Culture Council.

Oregon Archaeology CelebrationOregon Archaeology Celebration: A traveling exhibit of Oregon Archaeology month posters. Each October, Oregon Archaeology Celebration creates a poster to promote Oregon’s cultural past. The 18 posters which make up this exhibit feature the wonders of archaeology around Oregon. Each poster depicts a different aspect of Oregon archaeology, covering a range of topics including climate change, volunteers in archaeology, Fort Rock Cave, a coastal shell midden site, preservation of ship wrecks, technology through time, and the Oregon Trail.

 

Additional exhibits include: Homecoming2013: Evolution of Waldo Wolf in the 1st and 3rd floor lobbies, Current Faculty Publications in the 1st floor, and Japanese-American Relocation Center Newsletters in the 2nd floor Lobby

Brand new walk-up scanner: No login, no charge!

The library has a brand new walk-up scanner! It is located in the Copy Center on the first floor. It allows for immediate scanning (no log-in necessary) to PDF (including word-searchable PDF), JPG, PNG, rich text, and …audio file! Yes, it will take text and convert it to a computer-read mp3 file.

 

You can then output the scanned documents to:

  • an email address
  • Google Drive (Google Docs)
  • a USB drive
  • a QR Code to scan with your smartphone or tablet

All functions are accessed through a user-friendly touchscreen. The scanner also has these user-friendly features:KIC scanner

  • Face-up scanning
  • Oversized scanning, up to 17” x  24”
  • Adjustable platform, lays flat or cradles a book
  • SmartDock, for direct, wireless transfer to smartphone or tablet

Event at the library this week: WOU Futures Past

Hamersly Library is sponsoring a unique (and really fun!) event as part of New Student Week. Come by the library Tuesday from 1-4pm, and Friday from 12-3pm to participate in WOU Futures Past: a fun, interactive library game that lets you experience the past and capture the future. Keep an eye on our Facebook page for updates about the event and pictures of all the activities!

Borrow from Summit even while away from Monmouth

Flying books

Do you live or visit close to another college or university? If its library is a Summit member, you can have your materials sent there instead of to Hamersly.

Maybe you live in Salem and you always have to rush back after your WOU classes. To get set up, take your WOU ID card to the library at Willamette University (or maybe Chemeketa Community College). The library will “adopt” you as a Summit patron. Then, when you order your Summit materials, select Willamette as your institution and sign in. Complete your request. Just as if you had it sent to Hamersly, you’ll be notified by email when your item is ready to pick up. Remember to take your WOU ID again to check it out!

You can always return any Summit item to any Summit library. However, it’s best if you hand the item to staff and note that it’s Summit, so it’s sure to be sent and not accidentally shelved there.

You can also borrow material in person from Summit libraries.
