There is lots of tutoring available in the library. Hours and location vary, see “Tutoring Hours”————–>

–>The Writing Center: Sun-Thurs from 7-10pm in Room 116; any course and instruction level.

–>The Math Center: varying times in Room 228; both Math and non-Math courses like statistics.

–>The Science Learning Center: varying times in Room 124; Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Earth Science courses.

–>The English Tutoring Center: Mon-Thurs from 7-10pm in Room 228; help for English language learners with reading, listening to, and/or speaking.

–>The Digital Media Center: Hours vary by term, on the 2nd floor of the library; technology-related projects and class assignments.

 

EasyBib access gone as of August 31st

EasyBib phased out its institutional accounts as of Aug. 31st, which means that you are no longer able to access any citations, bibliographies, or other data in your EasyBib account.

The library now subscribes to Noodle Tools for citation management.

Results of last year’s library survey

survey word cloudLast spring, almost 1,000 of you responded to the library’s survey evaluating the use and quality of the our collections, services, and facilities. That’s 584 WOU students, 143 faculty, 128 members of staff, and 100 graduate students. Thank you so much for your participation!

We’ve crunched the numbers and created an executive summary with the results and some info about what we’re going to do with your feedback. It’s available in WOU’s digital repository, Digital Commons@WOU.

Pages 1-3 summarize the survey itself, basic demographics, overall results, improvements made since the survey, and what’s next. Pages 4-7 are single-page reports of results from specific groups: undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty, and staff.

Which should I use? VDI or the Terminal Server?

Need to access your H drive from off campus? Need to use specialized programs such as SAS, SPSS, or Photoshop for a class assignment? You can access all these from almost any computer by using a virtual connection. There are two computing environments to connect to: VDI and the Terminal Server.

VDI has newer versions of the Windows operating system and the Microsoft Office suite of programs. Some specialized software lives on VDI, while other software is only on the Terminal Server. Decide which option is best suited to your needs with this chart:

Tech Tuesday: Microphones

Are you are working on a video or digital project for a class or student organization? Using a microphone for the voice over, instead of relying on the microphone on your iPhone or video camera, will make a world of difference in the final project.

The library has several different types of microphones that you can check out and that will lend a professional touch to your finished product. Learn more:

Tech Tuesday: tripods

Are you filming something for a class project, your student organization, or just for your own artistic expression? Well, unless you’re going for a Blair Witch Project-style camera shake, you will want a tripod.

Tech Tuesday: Headsets w/microphones

Have you ever tried to hold your phone against your ear and type at the same time? It is difficult. Talking on speakerphone can solve this, but what if you’re in a public place or your roommate is asleep? That’s where these headsets can really come in handy.

They’re perfect for things like group calls and online classes – any scenario where you might want to talk and type at the same time. Plus, the sound quality is much better than speakerphone. Learn more:

Tech Tuesday: Portable DVD Players

Need to watch a movie for class, but you left your laptop at home? Maybe you don’t have a laptop, or your laptop doesn’t have a DVD player? Whatever the scenario, the library can help. We have portable DVD players that you can check out for up to 4 days and take wherever you’d prefer to watch your movie. Learn more:

Tech Tuesday: audio recorders

Did you know that we have three different types of audio recorders that you can check out from the library? These little beauties are perfect for recording:

  • A class lecture (as long as your professor is OK with it!) to take notes on later
  • An interview for a class assignment
  • A podcast to put online that will bring you fame and fortune (maybe…)
  • Notes on that story for your creative writing class or that article you’re writing for the school paper
  •  …and more!

Brand new walk-up scanner: No login, no charge!

The library has a brand new walk-up scanner! It is located in the Copy Center on the first floor. It allows for immediate scanning (no log-in necessary) to PDF (including word-searchable PDF), JPG, PNG, rich text, and …audio file! Yes, it will take text and convert it to a computer-read mp3 file.

 

You can then output the scanned documents to:

  • an email address
  • Google Drive (Google Docs)
  • a USB drive
  • a QR Code to scan with your smartphone or tablet

All functions are accessed through a user-friendly touchscreen. The scanner also has these user-friendly features:KIC scanner

  • Face-up scanning
  • Oversized scanning, up to 17” x  24”
  • Adjustable platform, lays flat or cradles a book
  • SmartDock, for direct, wireless transfer to smartphone or tablet
